Week 5 Reflection

Emma Stankovic

  1. Vocabulary and reflection-

This week we were in the dance studio at stoner learning how to include different dances and movement into lessons with students. Some vocabulary we learned this week was time, direction, and space in relation to perceptual motor skills. Examples of this would be things such as how we don't need to look behind us when stepping backwards. Other vocabulary we learned was three fundamental movement skills. Locomotor, non-locomotor, and object control. Examples of this would be ways we can move or stay in motion.

  1. Artwork-

I didn't get any artwork evidence from this week but I found this image online.

However, I did really like this week in the dance classroom. It was very fun to get out of the classroom and out of our comfort zones. I think my favorite activity we had to do was creating our own dance to the lyrics of the song.

  1. Questions-

How might these types of activities affect the learning and development of children?

  • These types of activities might affect the learning and development of children in multiple ways. The first way is that it can improve the child's confidence. The second way is that it can improve their physical development by getting them to learn more and learn to love physical activity.

In what ways could today’s activities be incorporated into the curriculum to teach different subjects?

  • You could incorporate movement and dance into almost every subject. For example, you could use dance to remember the parts of the body for science. Or you could use dance in reading to act out a scene from a book or for brain breaks in between subjects.

  1. I like your ideas for how dance could be incorporated to multiple subjects! I especially liked the idea where the students acted out a scene from a book.
